What is the difference between hard and soft landscaping?
Hard landscaping is the built structure: paving, retaining walls, driveways and edging. Soft landscaping is the living side: turf, garden beds, plants and mulch. Most yards need both, planned together, so levels and drainage suit the planting. We do both in-house.
Should I hire a landscape designer or a landscaping contractor?
If you only want drawings, a designer is fine. If you want the yard actually built and planted, you need a contractor too. We are both, so your design gets built by the same team, with no gap where things get lost between trades.
Is my block suitable for a retaining wall on clay soil?
Almost always, but the build has to suit reactive Wianamatta clay. That means engineered footings and proper ag-drainage behind the wall so moisture movement does not push it out. We assess the slope and soil on site and quote a wall that will hold.
Which landscaping suits a bushfire-prone block?
On bush-fringe blocks near Dharawal or the Georges River, we plan defendable space: low-flammability planting away from the house, non-combustible hardscaping close in, and clear separation from bushland. We work to the intent of Planning for Bush Fire Protection. Check your BAL rating with the RFS and council.
Do I need council approval for landscaping?
Many jobs like turf, garden beds and paving need no approval. Bigger retaining walls, structures near boundaries, or tree removal can need a development application or a permit. We flag anything that does before we start and can prepare council-ready plans. Confirm specifics with Campbelltown Council.
